Abuse of authority?
Together with the usual after school hangout cliques, we were roaming about then decided to settle down at this playground.
Next, two Indian men in their twenties walked pass us and scanned us all from top to toe then sat at this shelter beside us. Ok, awkward.. Let’s just pretend they are some bunch of troublemakers and get back at our topic. (They were officers from the nearby police post as they had their passes on)
Then this very unlikely expected moment arrived which reamined vivid in my mind till now. This insane man just started shouting at us hurling all sorts of vulgarities. Why? He wants us to lower our volumes because he was on the phone!
*Please note that the conversation below is not sensored to show how the officer has abused his authority. Also it has been slightly edited to cut down on all the so many vulgarities from this filthy officer’s mouth.
Officer: EH YOU FUCKING NAHBEI CHEEBYE YOU WANT TO SHUT UP OR NOT!
We: HUH!? (Shocked and confused)
Officer: I TALKING ON THE PHONE RIGHT! CHEE BYE, WHAT YOU ALL NOT HAPPY ISIT HUH!? NAHBEI CHEEBYE WHO NOT HAPPY YOU TELL ME!
LEP: Why can’t we talk? (Finds him unreasonable)
Officer: EH I TALKING ON THE PHONE SO YOU AL BETTER SHUT UP! (Then turns to one of my friends) WHAT YOU GANGSTER AH! (Blahblahblah with his vulgar)
Me: (Raise my hand) If you want us to lower our volumes you can tell us in a better tone.
Officer: (Nods) I like it. ( Ok, contradiction and irony spotted)
Unreasonable?
- Everyone has the right to speak in public
- It is not in the wee hours, what’s more we were not very loud
- Even if we were, he could have went somewhere else to talk
- If he is in love with the seat, he could tell us nicely to lower our volumes
- He does not have any rights at this point to be shouting at us
- Not to mention hurling such abuses

Dear barbaric officer,
I am indeed utterly disappointed to see a grown up behaving in such an unlawful manner having had the officer pass hung around your neck. You’ve just been a public disgrace if you hadn’t realise.
You think you look “cool” out there shouting at us, fierce don’t you? But no my dear, you just made a fool out of yourself because you look like some crazy mad insane man barking about. I’m sorry I had to use the word bark, I was just trying to be precise in the description.
You think we’d be afraid or frighten of you? Can’t say no because you sure looked like some crazy man on the loose out there. Who knows if you’d bite though I think it’s true a barking dog does not bite.
Your friend there? If I were him, I’d be laughing off your back. Goodness gracious! A working grown up trying to get at a few students hanging out.
Know what? I think you probably inherit the most immature mindset. Maybe you should cool down before coming to realise what a joke you’ve been today.
My dad told me we should have taken down your particulars, and I totally agree!
Young and ignorant, no where to go but hangout at some playground after school and so? We have every right to speak! Not to be shouted and screamed at by people like you! If you think we’re just kids and you can do whatever you want, then think again! Are you trying to be a bully here or something?
Too bad we don’t feel bullied, instead we feel tickled by this incredible joke! This is RIDICULOUS!
So what if you were an officer? I only get shouted by officers when I get involved in illegal activities. May I ask if it is right for an officer to shout at any other civilian. If joining the police force entitles me with the privilege to actually shout at anyone I want, then I tell you that would be my life goal ok. Because the first person I’d scream at is YOU!
Talking about justice.. What a joke! What a shame! What a letdown! You disgusted me!
